The Foundation for Research for Development (FoRD-Ghana), has been sharing with stakeholders, the various interventions it has embarked on in the past weeks, to aid in alleviating poverty in some parts of northern Ghana.

Presenting the overview of FoRD-Ghana’s activities, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and Project Coordinator, Adam Abdul-Fatawu said the organization exists to establish an effective collaboration with the state and non – state agencies, especially MMDAs.

He said the organization has so far empowered some 120 women in three women groups in three communities in Gushegu in the Northern Region of Ghana, giving them various training on how to make shea butter processing a business venture.

According to Mr. Adam, Over 500 other community members have been sensitized on shea butter procession and the need to see the shea nut as an industrial commodity that can help bring development to their communities through the production of good quality butter.

Various participants at the forum took turns to share their views on the interventions by FoRD-Ghana, saying even though the organization has a long way to go in ensuring the activities trickle to outcomes in the communities, it has done well by considering women in the rural community at the core of its work.

Organizational Development consultant and senior lecturer at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Dr. Alhassan Musah said the activities by FoRD-Ghana have been thought through well enough, and must be followed up for the various outcomes to be measured, for some strategies to be fashioned out to help in accessing more partnership for up scaling to ensure sustainability.

Programmes Manager for FoRD-Ghana, Mr. Shayawu Fuseini thanked the consultant and all participants, as he assured of a follow up to the forum with all the updates the organization will gather from the communities.

As part of strategies to raising capacity, ensuring good branding as well as repositioning for FoRD-Ghana, a media and communications consulting firm, Klink Communications has been contracted to identify the various gaps and lead the organization in finding the solutions to the communications challenges.

Communications Specialist with Klink Communications, Shaibu Awudu indicated that the fundamentals for communications of FoRD-Ghana have been set, which places the organization at the position where it can maximize the gains for branding and repositioning.

According to Shaibu Awudu, many organizations in northern Ghana have left far behind the principles of basic communications, which makes it difficult, time consuming and more expensive to position them for growth.

FoRD-Ghana’s activity on project review meeting with staff  and Board Members, is in partnership with Plan International-Ghana, with funding from Global Affairs Canada.
